All this week underground radio linchpin dublab will be broadcasting live from our humble little record shop. Here’s Tuesday’s line-up with some sample tracks from each artist.
10 AM: Owen Cole
Owen Cole is the Broadcast Manager/Audio Engineer at dublab. He’s going to be kicking off the week.
11 AM: Exploded Drawing Radio w/ Butcher Bear + Botany
Butcher Bear is the founder of (iN)Sect Records and co-founder of Exploded Drawing, the event that fostered the scene that sprouted the shop that’s hosting this event. It’s safe to say that without Butcher Bear and his extraordinary music this event wouldn’t be happening.
Botany is one of the biggest figures in our local electronic music scene. I wrote about his latest record, Dimming Awe, The Light is Raw (Western Vinyl) in our first ever EXPLODED INVENTORY segment. He’s been well received by critics, fellow musicians, and fans for his tasteful blending of ambient textures and hip-hop grooves.
12 PM: Robot Koch
Robot Koch is an award winning producer/composer originally from Berlin, currently based in Los Angeles, with a jaw-dropping resume. His music’s been used on various TV shows and films including NBC’s “the Blacklist” and Fox’s “Rake.” He’s collaborated with Tensnake, done remixes for Norah Jones, Bassnectar and Max Richter. He’s released several albums and EPs through Bpitch Control and Project Mooncircle and toured internationally. He was also the producer behind Berlin cult band Jahcoozi. In 2014, he received the German Music Composers Award for “Best Composer in Electronic Music.”
1 PM: DJ Nobody
DJ Nobody is an LA based producer and resident DJ of the earth-shattering Low End Theory, the weekly event that kick-started the beat scene and spawned artists like Flying Lotus and TOKiMONSTA. He’s collabortaed with legendary LA MCs like 2Mex, Abstract Rude, Freestyle Fellowship, Busdriver, and Nocando. Recently, he collaborated with soon-to-be-superstar Anderson Paak on Venice and released a solo project through Alpha Pup Records entitled Prodigal Son.
2 PM: Vibe Music Collective
Vibe Music Collective is a massive collective fronted by LA based producer/vocalist Iman Omari. They’re insanely talented and insanely varied and I hadn’t heard of them up until this booking but their Boiler Room session has me more than sold. They’ve got a three hour slot because they have a roster of over two dozen musicians, all of whom have something worth sharing. Understandably, we don’t expect the entire crew to show up.
5 PM: milo
milo is a Wisconsin-based rapper and head of the art rap collective Ruby Yacht. The Yacht boasts an impressive crew of some of the most interesting and innovative musicians in the game, including Safari Al, SB the Moor, and Randal Bravery. Milo himself is known for rappin real weird and tackling topics most rappers don’t, ranging from Jung to Dragon Ball Z to public masturbation. He’s been featured in Rolling Stone and has collaborated with Open Mike Eagle (yes those are three separate songs and here’s three more), Busdriver (here’s five more of those), Myka 9, Elucid, Hemlock Ernst and others. He put out two LPs last year, Plain Speaking under the Scallops Hotel moniker and So the Flies Don’t Come.
(pssst…. he’s my favorite rapper.)
Tomorrow I’ll have more details on Wednesday’s happenings… it’s gonna be dope. Trust me.
